Speech and Debate

Allowing students to research both sides of an issue to awaken their critical thinking in a powerful way.

Speech is the ultimate instrument to expressing one’s true feelings and position.  In speech and debate, students will learn to present points, and defend them.  They will do so with positions involving passion and present angles or positions not often traveled.  Speech teaches students how to properly structure a verbal communication to grab an audience, and give listeners the feeling one is talking to them, not at them.  Debate embraces a human instinct to formulate an opinion and gives the ability to defend one’s opinion through various points and examples.  Both Speech and Debate are crucial for survival in the real world as students prepare for making presentations, job interviews, college essays and applications, and conversations with peers.
